Obituary of Dr. James F. Feuerstein

Dr. James F. Feuerstein, age 66, of Geneseo, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 3, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Geraldine Feuerstein, sister, Susan (Richard) Wickey and stepfather-in-law, Robert Taylor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bethany L. Feuerstein, three sons, Chris (Amy) Feuerstein of Salt Lake City, UT, Brian (Rachel) Feuerstein of Oak Ridge, TN, Dan (Alli Baggiano) Feuerstein of Pittsburgh, PA, granddaughter, Nora, sister, Sally (Lewis) Cutler of Cato, NY, mother-in-law, Shirley Taylor of Gates, sisters-in-law, Deborah (Fred) Johnson of Roanoke, VA, Lynette (Peter) Reeb of Henrietta, Michelle (Earl) Harris of Smithfield, VA and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was born July 9, 1953 in Mineola, NY, the son of Arthur and Geraldine Feuerstein. He earned his Bachelor's in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Master's Degree in Audiology from SUNY Geneseo and his PhD in Audiology from SUNY Buffalo. Jim began his career as an Audiologist and Mobile Unit Coordinator at the Rochester Hearing and Speech Center. He began his teaching career at SUNY Geneseo, continuing at Nazareth College, retiring as Faculty Emeritus. 'Dr. F' furthered his teaching as an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University. Following his retirement from teaching, Jim became the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Rochester Hearing & Speech Center. Jim's passion for his profession extended to his active membership in New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Jim was a longtime member of the Swain Ski Patrol, becoming an instructor for outdoor emergency care. As a member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church, he sang in the choir, directed the brass ensemble, youth band and played trumpet during services. His music extended to several years playing with the Honeoye Falls Community Band. He was also a long time Geneseo Community Players crew member, flying set pieces for shows. A dedicated Scouter, beginning with his boys' time in Boy Scouts, he continued working to keep the local Scouting program strong. Jim thoroughly enjoyed his time announcing swim meets as the 'Voice of the Geneseo Pool'. Jim could often be spotted riding his recumbent bike all over and enjoyed sailing on Conesus Lake.

Due to COVID-19 there will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at AL Lorenz Park, Pavilion #1 on September 11, 2021 at 4 PM followed by a picnic. Interment will be in Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo.
