Obituary of William J. Hasler

William J. Hasler, age 75, of York, died Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA. He was predeceased by his brother, David (Nan) Hasler and brother-in-law, Norman Routly. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Carol Simpson Hasler, daughters, Marcia (Brian) Bartalo and Laura (Stephen) Schultz, grandchildren, Jakob and Nathaniel Bartalo, Caroline, Luke and Greta Schultz, sister, Yvonne Routly, brother, Edward (Anne) Hasler, sisters-in-law, Shirley (Terry) Mandeville, Barbara (Roger) Huff, aunt, Florence "Sis" Taft, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was born October 21, 1942 in Warsaw, NY the son of Charles W. and Betty Irene Taft Hasler. He was a multi-faceted farmer working for many of the York area farms. He was President of Pleasant Valley Cemetery and served as the Cemetery Manager. Bill was a 50 year member of the York United Presbyterian Church and was a Trustee. He served on the York Town Council and was York's citizen of the year in 2013. He was a longtime member of the York Fire Department and an Ambulance EMT. Bill served as Santa's helper for over 40 years and a volunteer at the Genesee Valley Rotary Camp for over 20 years. He was the consummate volunteer for the York community. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 11 AM at the York United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michelle Sumption officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in York.
