My sympathy to all the family. I remember way back when when Jim was an active member of St. Lucy's in Retsof. He always had a smile on his face and a warm friendly greeting for everyone he encountered. You felt comfortable around. If you meet him for the first time, you felt like you had known him your whole life. I am sure he will be missed. Even though I no longer live in Retsof, Jim was a person you never forgot.

I was shocked and so sad to hear of Jim' passing. I just saw him a couple weeks ago at Highland Hospital, where he was visiting his Mother. We hugged, and last thing he said is, "we have to get together soon Eileen, and catch up". He was a gentle soul, hard working, and a great nurse...most of all, a very dear friend....I will miss him. You had a very nice and sweet service that Jim would have approved of.. God Bless you all. Heaven has received an Angel...Love, Eileen VanAllan RN

I remember Jim Vitale from when he was operating a “steam roller”, rolling the pavement for the Vitale Bros. in what as to be a parking lot for the Ames department store; when he was a CLI, certified lab instructor, in the early 1980’s at the Lakeville firemen’s training for what was my first refresher course as an emergency med. tech.; when he was the physician’s assistant in the late Dr. S. Arluck’s office. I still regret not taking Jim for what would have his first haircut in many years to the little barbershop near the police station in Warsaw, in which village I last spoke with Jim as he accompanied his mother to an appointment at University Eye. With deepest sympathy, Will McDonald

Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am for the loss of such a wonderful human being. Jim was always sweet and welcoming, and I wish I had gotten to know him better in the short time I spent with his son. Necole and Sebastian, losing someone is never easy, especially a parent, but your father will live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. Cherish those memories, think of him often, and he will never truly leave you. My love and sympathy goes out to the whole Vitale clan. May Jim rest in peace.

Enthusiastic, curious, knowledgeable, and sharing. I met Jim in the 1970s on the Genesee Flats near Piffard, while as an avocational archaeologist, I was walking the plowed fields looking arrrowheads.
From that time we would see each other sporadically, especially after I moved to Albany for 28 years, returning to the Rochester area 10 years when we caught up with one another.
I lost a good and knowledgeable friend, as did local Native American archaeology.
I will always remember his enthusiasm, curiosity and his willingness to share his extensive knowledge of the Genesee Valley's Native American prehistory and history.
He will be missed.
George Hamell
[Member of the Lewis H. Morgan Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association, and former Curator of Anthropology at the Rochester Museum and Science Center and Native American specialist at the New York State Museum, and presently the Collection Manager of the Rock Foundation's Seneca archaeological collections on loan to the Rochester Museum.]

Leah, Mark, Necole, Sebastian and the Vitale Family,
To say Jimmy was an angel here earth is an understatement. I first met him when I worked at Vitale Brothers in the late eighties. I loved going down to the basement where Jimmy’s office was and he was always smiling and making me laugh. You could talk to him about anything under the sun. He always would listen very intently and he always seemed interested in what you were saying. I have to believe there were times when he wasn’t interested in what I was saying…but he would never let on. I kept in contact with him even after I left Vitale Bros. Every time I ran in to him (always at wegmans) he would let me know how my Grandpa and Grandma Chichester were doing because he lived 5 houses up from them. He always would look to see if they were outside when he went by. He knew everything was all good when Grandpa Chichester was sitting outside in this lawn chair drinking a beer! I was so happy when he pursued a career change and went into the health field. Jimmy is smart, happy, kind, empathic and never judged. Which made him perfect to pursue helping people. It is a fact that everybody he met he instilled his upbeat spirit in and made them a better person. RIP Jimmy

We were so very sad to hear of Jim's untimely passing. A dear friend who always lighted up any conversation with a warm, caring sense of humor, we truly enjoyed every encounter we had with Jim.
His service on the Town Board, his open mind to all opinions, his caring of our friends and relatives while assisting with the ambulance squad or caring for them in the hospital setting, his sincere love of all people, animals, history and country, showed his deep commitment to making his part of the world a better place for everyone he encountered.
We will miss his Saturday morning conversations and seeing the way he could light up any space.
God Bless you, Jim..rest easy..and deepest condolences to his entire family.

Jim, first I want to thank you for your friendship. You made it so so easy to be your friend, not sure if you knew how much you meant to me? I was blessed to find you walking in that field that day, hunting for arrowheads as we started up our first conversation. I know you didn't know this at first, as we both liked being in the field first after a good rain, but I always hoped to see you there. From that day on I knew I had a new arrowhead geek friend like me and the world seemed a bit bigger for me. So the next time I found you walking the field, I wanted to be ready and was excited to show you all the points I knaped and see if you had interest in learning? If you tried knapping in the past, you never brought it to my attention and looking back I think you were just nurturing my excitement the craft brought to me. The rest is history my friend, I'm sad we'll never walk the fields together again. Ill say a little prayer before I do for you Jim, see ya some day in the other happy hunting grounds! Love you brother!

We were so terribly sad to learn of Jim's passing. He was such a nice person, and we always enjoyed chatting with him when we met him. I still remember the time that he went Girl Scout camping with us because we didn't have a first aider. He took care of it by sitting down, putting up his feet, and telling the girls, "No one get hurt!". He was so proud of Nekki and Seb, and always told us where they were and what they were doing. Seb and Nekki, you were so blessed to have Jim as a father, and we pray that the happy memories will ease your heartbreak.
