Obituary of Roland P. Beattie II
Roland P. Beattie II, age 95, of Rochester, died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY.
He was predeceased by his wives, Laura Davidson Beattie in 1967 and Marilyn Troll Beattie in 2009.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Chip) Presutti of Geneseo, Joya B. Beattie of South Burlington, VT, Laura D. Beattie of Trumble, CT, Marilyn's children, Lisa Allen Suits of Washington, DC, Jeffery T. Vawter of Marietta, OH, grandsons, John (Lynne) Lockhart of Avon, Roland "RB" Lockhart of Rochester, great granddaughter, Mackenzie Williams of Rochester, nieces and nephews.
Roland was born March 13, 1921 in Yonkers, NY the son of Kenneth W. and Kathryn Brown Beattie. He graduated from The Hotchkiss School and Princeton University. He was a World War II US Army Air Corps Veteran. Roland founded Kenro Corporation together with his brother, the late Kenneth B. Beattie in 1946. They built a factory in Cedar Knolls, NJ, as the fourth generation of the family engaged in the graphic arts industry. Roland retired to Ivy, VA in 1983 and served on the Vestry and as a Senior Warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was a member of several clubs including, the Morris County Golf Club in Convent Station, NJ, Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, VA and the Greencroft Club in Ivy, VA. Roland was also a member of the Nassau Club in Princeton, NJ, the Lake Placid Club in NY and the Veteran Motor Club. He was a longtime collector and restorer of antique motorcars beginning as a student at Princeton. His collection included a 1909 Stanley Steamer, 1916 Stutz Bearcat, a 1904 Mercedes a 1927 Mercedes-Benz "S" class and a 1908 Lancia which is now located in the Lancia Factory Museum in Italy. He was particularly proud of his restoration of a 1904 Mercedes which he entered and competed in the 1978 London-Brighton Run in the UK.
No prior calling hours. Memorial Services will be held in Ivy, VA. Interment will be in St. Paul's Church Cemetery in Ivy, VA, at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
