Obituary of Verna E. Rogers

Verna E. "Berd" Rogers, age 91, a resident at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, passed peacefully Monday, January 2, 2017. Mrs. Rogers had resided at Morgan Estates in Geneseo and was formerly of Ellisburg, NY and The Villages, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Rogers in 1997, son, Jack Rogers in 2014 and 6 siblings. She is survived by her children, Eleanor (David) Sheldon of West Monroe, NY, John (Cecil) Rogers of Ellisburg, NY, Norma Jean Rogers of Weedsport, NY, James Rogers of Tonawanda, Jan (Jennifer) Rogers of Geneseo, daughter in law, Rose Rogers of NJ, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Verna was born March 19, 1925 in Woodville, NY the daughter of Luther and Anna Bertha Waldorf Hall. She retired from the Belleville Central School as a Cafeteria Cashier. Verna proudly achieved her High School Equivalency Diploma in January 1996. She was a very active person including volleyball, bowling, walking, card playing, dominos, and long-time president of the local Senior Citizen Organization. One of the many highlights of her life was preparing for the Rogers annual family reunion, which was held for close to 30 years. She always enjoyed visits from family, friends, and neighbors. Friends may call on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Visitation will also be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 2-4 PM at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, 7883 State Route 289, Belleville, NY where Memorial Services will follow visitation at 4 PM.
