I studied with Nona at the 92nd Street Y, The New Dance Group and her private studio,
for many years. She was an amazing teacher and person. She will never be forgotten.

For over a year and a half, I had the the pleasure of spending my Friday mornings with Nona - I liked to call them "Fridays with Nona," and I LOVED to plan my outfits, so that I had on vibrant, "sassy" clothing that Nona always commented on! I absolutely ADORED Nona, and liked to tease her about different things (often earning a chuckle for my efforts!), and am devastated by the earthly loss of her. She was always a teacher, lecturer, philosopher, and yes, sometimes, "set in her ways.' But, I always figured that, at her age, she was entitled to a little bit of sass! She taught me many things, and though my time with her was voluntary, I earned much more than a mere wage could have EVER been. Thank you, Nona, for all you gave me, with our lengthy conversations, our bird and squirrel watching, and your not-so-secret "fascination"/irritation with John Boehner! The simple mention of your name shall always bring a smile to my lips...
Fondly,
Hayley Kelley

Nona was an inspiration to everyone who met her. I cherish the time spent playing piano for her classes. I am sure she is still dancing now.

Nona was a patient of ours for many years. My staff and I always looked forward to her appointments as she was always very social and passionate about what she believed in. Nona loved nature and dance with a passion. It was truly a pleasure and a privilege to have known her, Nona will be missed by all.

I graduated from Geneseo Class of 1980 and enjoyed my time with Nona through the Drama Department. Her humor, insight and words of wisdom are still with me today and I have a letter that she wrote me in 1982, cheering me on as I was trying to make my way post college in professional theatre. I am happy to say that all these years later, I succeeded and always appreciated her support and guidance. Here's to you, Nona and your everlasting life of dance and dignity.

In memory of an Aunt who was determined to do things her way, yet always had time for family and friends, she was a great example for the younger generation to follow their ambitions in life.

For years, Nona and I would sit and look at the beauty of the wild flowers in the field outside of her window at Geneseo Heights. She could name all of the trees and flowers, and even kept a photo album of the field with pictures she took each year to watch the growth of the trees. I promised her that as long as I was Site Manager of Geneseo Heights I would never mow that field down and I did not. I look at it now and it is, of course, all gone. RIP Nona. I hope you can see your field again.
Much love goes with you,
Pat

What a life indeed! Will always remember her when she came home at Christmas. She would take the train from New York...usually on Christmas Eve. She always brought us a beautiful book about nature wrapped in simple white tissue paper and tied with a red ribbon. Still have some of those books and passed a few to other younger members of the family.
She was totally immersed in dance very often to the exclusion of anything else. As well her stubbornness often got her in trouble. She didn't believe the rest of us understood her but this was not correct. But in the end she was her own master and really did "do it her way". A remarkable lady, a remarkable life and a pioneer in the modern dance field.
Rest in peace auntie...
