Obituary of Harold J. Schery

Harold "Twinks" Schery age 75 passed away Saturday May 26, 2012 peacefully at home. He was born 2/16/37 and was a long time resident of Groveland. He is predeceased by his parents Howard and Mary Toland Schery, first wife Barbara Little Schery, son Brent Schery, sister, Joyce Schery Vanella and nephews H. Joe and Richard Vanella, and his grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Marilyn Schery, daughter, Tracy Schery Martin of Virginia, and her children, Misty and Joshua Martin, grandson Kevin Malone, daughter Sharon (Randy Bennett) Burch of Oakfield, and her children Traci and Cindy Burch, grandson Kenneth Melvin, daughter Julia (Chuck) Hainsworth of Groveland, her children Jessica, Kyle, Grace and Faith Hainsworth, son Scott Schery of Leicester and his son, Brent Schery, sister, Barbara Schery Parsons of Groveland, brother, Howard "Andy" (Betty) Schery of Texas, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nephews and a niece. Harold's first job was helping local farmers in his teen years. Harold was a US Army Veteran. He worked on construction of the NY State Thruway and also as a diesel mechanic at Caterpillar Company. Harold drove truck for Jones Chemical all over the country. He was a foreman at Kraft Foods in Avon. Harold then went into business as Schery and Schery Trucking, Helping Hands and Time Enterprises hauling furniture, mowing lawns, and doing landscaping. He worked for J.O. Cook in Avon delivering fuel to many homes in this county. Harold drove truck for Crossett hauling gasoline. He then worked at Flower City and Comac Builders delivering cement blocks too many homes in this area. In the winter, at Christmas time, he hauled mail for the US Post Office to Georgia and back on the weekends. He retired from truck driving in 1998. His passions included driving truck, riding motorcycles, and square dancing. As he got older, he really enjoyed woodworking, doing leather crafts, and making yard art. Harold spent countless hours researching family genealogy and the history of Native Americans. He enjoyed attending family reunions and tracking down and documenting his extended family. Harold was very proud of his grandchildren's accomplishments and often tried to make horse shows and events that they were in. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with all of his family and friends. Visitation will be held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Thursday May 31, 2012 from 4-7 PM. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the family.
