I just learned of Dr. Greg Liptak's untimely death. It is a testament to his compassion, brilliance and zeal to care for his patients that although I worked with him nearly 30 years ago, I am profoundly saddened and acutely aware that we have lost an exemplary healer and leader. There are too few like him, but his example will live in our hearts to measure ourselves by. I will never forget him, and I know I am not alone. I grieve with his family but I also share in their joy and pride because he was one in a million a loving moral force who gave many lives worth living, so he can never die.

I was lucky enough to have known and worked a bit with Greg through the AACPDM. He was a fine physician and, more importantly, a fine human being. Greg cared deeply and children and adults with developmental disabilities and did much to enhance their lives through his direct clinical care and his professional publications. I am sad to have lost such a valued colleague at such a young age . . .
Sincerely,
Susan R. Harris, PhD, PT

I work as a Medicaid Service Coordinator in Johnson City, NY. I met Dr. Liptak when I attended appointments with one of the familes I serve. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Liptak. He changed this little boy's life for the better! The mother respected him more than any doctor her son has seen. He was compassionate, understanding, patient, and knowledgeable. He saved this little boy's life when no one else would listen. Thank you Dr. Liptak and the world was a better place because of you! He will be greatly missed by the disability community! His family is in my prayers and I hope they find peace and comfort in kowing how many lives he touched and changed! God Bless!

I worked in Pediatric Administration at the University of Rochester in 1980 and 1981 and came to know Dr. Liptak at this time, and later still working at the UR although not in Pediatrics, as our paths would cross in the Medical Center he still always shared a hello. A very nice person and physician... I listen to a music cd of a concert done by Peter, Paul & Mary and there is a A song of dedication "to all those who have given their lives and who are giving their lives so that all of us can walk this god's earth free and equal". And I always interpret to myself also of a civil capacity, not only military.....today, this song dedication is for Dr. Greg Liptak.....

I was a medical school classmate of Greg's. It was such a pleasure knowing him then, back in North Carolina, at Duke. We drifted out of touch for a long time but I still have great memories of those truly formative years in Durham.

Greg was an inspiration to me in the tender caring wise way he treated patients and colleagues alike. He built and led a team at Upstate to serve struggling families which had a cohesion transparency and forward-moving strength which was like none other in my lengthy experience. May we continue to remember and learn from his ways.

To Dr Liptak's Family:
Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and to all others who were lucky enough to have your husband and father in their lives. We met "Dr L" about 16 months ago. We were a family in dire need and without going into too much detail in a public forum, your husband/father went out of his way to see our son quickly. He saved our family!!And we will forever be grateful! Thanks for sharing such a wonderful man with the rest of us!! Erin & JOe L.

I am so glad to have been able to have met and received help for my child from Dr. Liptak. I will always be grateful for the words of encouragement he offered to me as a mother, struggling in a world that can be challenging to those with special needs. He was an intelligent, caring, and compassionate man. While it is a tremendous loss, I hope his family can take comfort in knowing the world is certainly a better place because of his time he had here.

Penny, My deepest sympathy to you and your sons. Greg was my first "boss" and how fortunate I was to have known him. I remember his compassion for those he treated as a physician and his respect and care he gave to the rest of us. I thought of him as a friend and I shall never forget that he took a chance on me when I so needed a job all those years ago. I send my love - Nancy Stukey Davidow
