Obituary of Audrey Jane Algier

Audrey J. Algier, 79, of Crossett Rd. in Geneseo, died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Audrey was preceded in death by her beloved son Daniel Algier, parents, Samuel and Lucille Montgomery, her stepfather Emmett Smith, her sister Gloria Stoffel, and her nephew Fred Stoffel. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jerry Algier, sons, Jerry (Joann) Algier of Attica, Bob (Anne Marie) Algier of Fairport, grandchildren, Jaclyn Algier of Attica, Ryan Algier of Fairport, brother, Ronald (Eileen) Montgomery of VA, several nieces and nephews. She was born April 3, 1931 in Rochester, NY the daughter of Samuel and Lucille Nolte Montgomery. Audrey earned her Bachelor's Degree in Special Education in 1953 and her Master's Degree in Administration in 1956 fron SUNY Geneseo. Audrey was a special class teacher in Mt. Morris and later at Craig Developmental Center in Sonyea where she became Education Supervisor and retired as Director of Education and Training. She was a founding member of the Livingston-Wyoming ARC where she served in many capacities. Audrey served on many boards including the Community Advisory Board for the Groveland Correctional Facility and served as an oral test examiner for the State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. She was also a Literacy Volunteer for Ontario County. Audrey was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed their many activities. Visitation will be held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 from 4-7 PM where Funeral Services will follow visitation at 7 PM with Rev. Carol Sierk officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Geneseo Ambulance Fund, PO Box 428, Geneseo, NY 14454.
