Obituary of Carmen J. Farruggia

Retsof: Carmen J. Farruggia, age 93 of Retsof Ave., died Wednesday April 7, 2010 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was born August 15, 1916 in Retsof, NY, the son of the late Charles and Michelina Arrigenna Farruggia Sr. Carmen attended Greigsville High School. He was married in 1945 to Loretta Spizzano Farruggia who died in 1971. He then married Angeline Parise Farruggia who predeceased him in 1999. He was employed at the New York State School of Industry, in Rush, NY where he retired from after 34 years of service. He was a member of the CSEA retirees, a past president of CSEA of Industry where he served as president for many years. He was also an avid golfer and sports enthusiast who especially loved fishing, and was a communicant of St. Lucy's Church in Retsof. Besides his parents and his wives, he was predeceased by his daughter Judy Farruggia, 2 sisters, Anna Pavoni, and Esther Farruggia, and 3 brothers, James, Joseph, and Charles Farruggia Jr. He is survived by his son James (Debra) Farruggia of Retsof, 2 grandchildren, Andriana and Peter Farruggia both of Retsof, 2 sisters, Mary (Arthur) Bernecker of York, and Grace Farruggia of Retsof, 2 sisters-in-law, Carol Farruggia, and Mary Ellen (Jim) Callahan both of Retsof, many nieces, nephews, and extended step family in Pennsylvania. Visitation will be held Friday April 9, 2010 from 4-8 pm at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Carmen's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Lucy's Church in Retsof. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.
