I thought of Mike last night for some reason and searched for him. I was sad to see that he had died.
I was at UConn in grad school at the same time he was and a few of us shared an office. Mike was a lovable character who brought a lot of life and laughter to our busy school days. I also hung out with him some and greatly enjoyed his spirit and intellect.
Our small world story was that I also lived in upstate Avon, New York, some years prior to meeting Mike and often drove to Geneseo. Mike told me of the vegetable stand he ran noting that I had driven right by him. We didn’t meet of course until UConn.
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to stay in touch with Mike. He often said, “I want to see you in 20 years to see how you’ve changed.” I would have enjoyed the same.
The World is worst off with the spirited character and cool person I met and knew. My condolences to the Ofchus family, friends, loved ones, and all who knew him.
