Obituary of Challis L. Burdick

Challis L. (Spring) Burdick, age 67, of York Rd. in York, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 after an inspiring 12 year battle with breast/ovarian cancer. She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin "Shorty" Burdick, sister, Ginny Kanada and granddaughter, Courtney Jones. She is survived by her children, James (Monica) Jones of York, Kristie (Mike) Hanna of Leicester, Stacey (Jim) Lee of Leicester, Monica (Dave) Schillinger of Conesus, step children, Thomas (Vicki) Burdick of Retsof, Randy (Dawn Lubanski) Burdick of Leicester, Bonnie (Tim Roycroft) Morris of York, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother, Van Allen (Sandy) Spring of Chili, sister, Sally (Donald) Lamphier of FL, several nieces and nephews. Challis was born June 10, 1947 in Rochester, NY the daughter of Van Allen and Bernice La Barr Spring. Throughout her battle Challis never lost her sense of humor that she was so well known for. She was also known for her amazing seamstress abilities. She thoroughly enjoyed creating her grandchildren's Halloween costumes each year. Her friends recall the crazy times they had with her. She loved joking around and having a good time. Challis always seemed to have an unlimited supply of energy and love for her grandchildren because they were truly the light of her life. She loved life and made it so memorable for the rest of us. She will truly be missed. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. A Celebration of Challis' Life will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11 AM at the A-On-Do-Wah-Nuh Sportsman's Club, 4716 River Rd. in Leicester (Note Location Change) with Rev. Bill Tabor officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Livingston County Hospice Fund, 2 Murray Hill Dr., Mt. Morris, NY 14510 or the Teresa House, 21 Highland Rd., Geneseo, NY 14454.
