Obituary of Alan L. Case

Alan L. Case, age 58, of Jacqueline Way in Geneseo, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at his residence. He is survived by his parents, Ernest and Janet Case of Cutchoque, Long Island, sisters, Cheryl (Robert) Distenfeld of Williamson, Carole Weber of Coventry, CT, several nieces and nephews and close friend Brian Smith. Alan was born November 30, 1955 in Greenport, Long Island the son of Ernest and Janet Price Case. He was a graduate of Cutchoque High School on Long Island and SUNY Geneseo. He was employed at SUNY Geneseo as a Vocal Coach and Accompanist since 1981. He has served St. Michael's Church in Geneseo as Organist and Choir Director since 1982 and also served as Warden. Alan's accomplishments were many: knitting, props, gardening, and directing, set painting and of course music and the piano. A few of the many groups and organizations that Alan worked with were: Geneseo Community Players, Geneseo Central School Drama Club, Off-Monroe Players Gilbert & Sullivan and Rochester Children's Theatre. In addition to his duties in the SUNY Geneseo Music Dept., Alan founded the Geneseo Vocal Miscellany that presented over 75 productions of revue and musical theatre in Geneseo and lastly the Rochester Fringe Festival. Alan was very proud of offering these additional performance opportunities to not only students but also community and alumni. There are many more ways in which Alan touched our lives and contributed to the Geneseo Community, too many to list here. Friends may call Friday, June 20, 2014 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM at the Roger's Chapel of St. Michael's Church, 23 Main St. in Geneseo. A Celebration of Alan's Life will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Michael's Church. Interment to follow in St. Michael's Churchyard. Alan loved bright colors. Please feel free to brighten up this celebration. Wear something colorful and if you are lucky enough to have one of Alan's beautiful knitted creations, please wear it or bring it with you.
