Obituary of Harry R. Wadsworth

Henry Roosevelt Wadsworth (Harry to one and all), age 83, died Friday, September 27, 2024 at his home in Geneseo.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Wadsworth, daughters, Elizabeth (Chris Jacobs) Wadsworth of Durango, CO, Jessica (Bruce) Clarke of Avon, grandchildren, Hudson and Alden Jacobs, Reverdy and Emma Clarke and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Harry was born January 3, 1941 in Rochester, NY and was the son of Reverdy and Eleanor Roosevelt Wadsworth. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from Yale University and his Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Syracuse University. He moved to Denver, CO with his first wife, Raye Popp Wadsworth (deceased), where he worked in commercial interior design and fell in love with skiing and scuba diving. He subsequently became part owner of a diving resort on Grand Cayman Island, where he worked as a dive master and underwater photographer, and met his second wife, Helen. They returned to Geneseo and opened the American House Bed & Breakfast on Main Street. In later years, family became central to his life and Harry passed along his love of the slopes and oceans to his children and grandchildren, and included them in many of his travels. He loved good food, good wine, martinis, jazz and sports, particularly lacrosse and ice hockey.

 

Per Harry’s request, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of Harry’s life will be announced at a later date and time. Interment will be in Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo.
