Obituary of Michael J. Costa

Michael J. Costa, age 71, of Retsof, died Saturday, December 23, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Mastin, sisters, Linda Perkins and Diane Barrows.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia of 45 years, children, Joshua (Mandy) Costa of Retsof, Angela (Lancing) Pascuzzo of Piffard, granddaughters, Madalena and Isabella, sister, Mary (Robert) Newland of Batavia, several nieces and nephews.

Michael was born July 6, 1952, in Buffalo, NY the son of Sandy and Doris Baker Costa. He served in the National Guard from 1972-78. Mike started his 46-year career in salt mining as a laborer for International Salt Co. He then worked as an equipment operator and mechanic until it's collapse. He was the first employee hired by American Rock Salt as a mechanic and later as the Purchasing Manager, from where he retired. He was an active member of the Mt. Morris Sportsman Club, where he served as a board member. He was an avid trap and skeet shooter but enjoyed sporting clays the most. Mike was a self-taught classical guitarist and a woodworking craftsman.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Memorial Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
