Michael Buckley was a staple in Geneseo.
I remember when he and Lorretta would stop into different stores on Main St. and visit as they did their errands.
It was so sad when Michael's wife passed. He stopped into Manns Jewelers to tell us about it.
I felt so bad for him, he seemed so lost without Lorretta.
His happiest times were when he went to visit his brother Dennis and his family. His face would be full of joy when telling me all about it.
Micheal used to stop in for help in picking out a gift for Lorretta for their anniversary. I would wrap it up for him to tuck in his basket and take home to give to his love.
It will be very strange to not see Michael walking along the streets. He always had his pull cart with him to collect all the cans that were left littering the streets. He would take them home and wash them, then load them into his cart when he had a full basket and take them up to Wegmans to turn them in.
One winter I saw Michael walking up South St. It was very cold with about 4" of snow. So I stopped and gave him a ride home.
After doing my shopping I was surprised to see Michael out walking on 20A pulling his cart again.
He was still doing what he felt was his job.
To keep the cans and bottles picked up off the streets in Geneseo.
That's exactly what Michael was doing the last time that I saw him a few days before his passing.
Michael you will be missed by me and many others.
The saving grace is to know that you will be reunited with Lorretta again.
It doesn't get better than that.

To Michael's family
I met Michael many, many years ago while he and Loretta were shopping at Wegman's. Loretta and I were classmates and friends at York Central School. They were both happy and smiling, so happy that they had each other. After Loretta's passing, often I saw Michael walking in Geneseo. Sad as it is to lose a family member, there is peace with the fact that he once again will join Loretta, as well as many other friends and family members. May Michael "Rest in Peace".
Peace to all of you~~
