Obituary of Mary H. Derby

Mary H. Derby, age 89, of Geneseo, died Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Morgan Estates in Geneseo. She was predeceased by her husband, William "Bill" Derby and her daughter, Margaret Derby.

She is survived by her children, Sister Connie Derby, RSM of Rochester, Paul (Michele) Derby of Schenectady, NY, Martha (Roger) Mock of Altamont, NY, Jean (Thomas) McCart of Irondequoit, Philip Derby of Dania Beach, FL, Matthew (Mary-Kim) Derby of Pawtucket, RI, 5 grandchildren, Emily Mock, Joshua (Allison) Mock, Svetlana Derby, Zooey Kim Conner and William Derby, 2 great-grandchildren, Marianne and Gloria Mock, several nieces and nephews.

Mary was born June 5, 1933 in Milwaukee, WI the daughter of Samuel Newton and Agnes Marie Mahoney Hope. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Mary was a founding member of the Livingston Wyoming ARC and dedicated much of her life on behalf of persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Mary held leadership roles in the Finger Lakes Board of Visitors and the NYS Association of Boards of Visitors. She was also a past member of the Interfaith Board for SUNY Geneseo, the Livingston County Coalition of Churches and the Livingston County Association for Mental Health. Mary was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church in Geneseo.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 4 Avon Rd., in Geneseo with Rev. Daniel J. Condon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.
