I had the pleasure of working with Al when I was a young Officer in Doccs . Even after I moved on to transfer and eventually get promoted to Sgt. we would cross paths from time to time. I learned so much from him and always had a good feeling when in his presence. Words cannot describe what a fantastic person he was. He will be missed! Rest In Peace my friend.

As a previous administrator in DOCCS, the relationship between management and the union can be difficult at times. I was truly lucky in my role at the facility to have Al on the other side of the table. It is rare to have to have the relationship we did and both understanding our roles and being able to negotiate amicable outcomes to problems encountered in a tough business. I appreciated Al and respected him and if everyone acted as professional as Al, we would all be better off. To his family I am sorry for your loss. Al will be missed

I've thought about Al many times over the years as we grew up together in high school. I've not seen him since graduation. But when I think of all the things we did together he is a great friendship memory. Many days playing baseball or football riding mini bikes or working the family garden, cutting wood or playing cards each morning before walking to school, leaving good memories of our youth. Though I can not attend his funeral I will think of him in spirit My condolences to his family , he was a great guy and will be surely missed. Love and thoughts David Lutz Elmira , N.Y

Al,
You were always a remarkable advocate for the people you represented. Often you would set aside your own troubles to address those of others. Your name and your legacy will forever be honored by your friends and especially by the members of NYSCOPBA. I’ll miss you, Al.

I am so sorry to hear about Al’s passing. I met him while he was working with NYSCOPBA and I was the Superintendent of Buffalo and Rochester Correctional Facilities. He was logical, methodical and a “stand up” guy! He worked for his membership in every aspect. May he Rest In Peace.
