Jim was a part of my family for ten years. He was quite the bright trivia game player at family gatherings. I lost connections with Jim when he began his second family but still admire and enjoy his first son Cory. Cory looks a lot like Jim in many ways. May Jim rest in peace.

I have too many fond early memories of Uncle Jim to list them all here. But I always loved to visit him bc I knew I was going to spend time outdoors fishing or playing on a farm. Thanksgivings with Jim and family in Geneseo with cousins Leah and Ben, all of us kids taking turns with the soda gun behind the bar still rate as some of my best. Uncle Jim gave me a taxidermied badger he had done. That badger took on a new life terrorizing my pets and friends in my childhood for years. Once we went salmon fishing on lake Ontario and caught about 100 lbs of fish! Other times it was carp fishing with corn on the river. Always super early in the morning. What a blast. One of my earliest memories with Uncle Jim was as a child I found a little toad about as big as the tip of my finger. I brought it to Uncle Jim to show. He took the toad, then he closed it in his hand. When he opened his hand again there were two little toads instead of one! How did he do that? I still dont know! Does he just keep a spare little toad on hand for such an occasion? What an Uncle! With such great magic! I'm happy and proud to have been named James, after my Uncle as my middle name. I hope the fishing is great in your next adventure Uncle Jim! Your loving nephew always, -Colby James Friend

Dear Becky and Boys....I am so sadden by your loss. While it's been more than 20 years since we hunted together with GVH, those memories are still vivid and filled with good times for me. Hunting 'up front' with Sally, Mike and Jim were really special times. If I can't make it to the "lawn party", I'd really like to attend the service at Arlington National Cemetery if appropriate. Just one hunting story: Both KCline and my horse Ranger were ex-police horses...and they seemed to know that and got on extremely well. One Christmas, Jim put reindeer horns on Kalvin. As I rode Ranger up to take our place at the head of the first field, Ranger started to go crazy...and wouldn't go near Jim and Kalvin...and so that one day we went towards the back. the entire day.

With fondest memories, we send our deepest sympathies to family, friends, and the countless he helped in so many ways - including humor! We lived in Rochester but loved the hunt and the valley; we moved away but connected whenever we could. We will think of him when we visit our parents and in-laws at Arlington. Love and prayers, Anne Pokras and Kathy Fowler

What a truly special man. He was a part of so many lives in so many ways. I remember being at Becky and his wedding at their home one day after hunting, presided over by Judge J. Robert Houston with no prior notice - a truly special occasion. Having them as neighbors in recent years has been a blessing.
Peace, blessings and virtual hugs to all of those who loved him.

Jim was a great friend of my dad and I remember when they went to Las Vegas to pick up a car.
Jim was such a personable guy!! I will never forget meeting him.
I had no idea he was a helicopter pilot! Thanks so much, Jim, for your service and for being such a good friend to my dad!! Rest in Peace!

Becky, Cory, Connor, Cooper and Rebecca,
We are so saddened for your loss.It has been one of my greatest joys to share time with Jim and your family. It was just a few short years ago Jim was spoiling my boys with 5 dozen clams for dinner instead of the pizza I had promised, but that was Jim showing kindness and love in all the little ways. Prayers for peace and love during this time.

Becky, Connor, Cooper & Cory,
I am sorry to hear of Jim's passing, yet I smile when I think of him and I always will. You probably know that Jim was Gerald's first friend that he made in the Genesee Valley. On one of Gerald's many trips to Geneseo back in the 80's, Sally had asked Gerald to foxhunt with them and not having a coat, he declined. So Sally went on a hunt for a hunt coat with broad shoulders and of course, Jim came to mind. Jim, being Jim, graciously let him borrow it. That was the beginning of their ongoing friendship. Whether it be foxhunting, setting up grounds for various horse events, drinking at Kellys, or just hanging out in the Valley, one thing was certain...many many laughs and good times were had. He was always kind, not just to Gerald, but myself and our children. He will always be fondly remembered and I'd like to think that Gerald and he are picking up right where they left off, and this makes my heart smile.

Such a tremendous loss. I was fortunate to know Jim through my work at the Batavia VA. He stopped into my office to say hello every time he was in the building. I knew his military history and was in awe of his accomplishments, awards and decorations. That he had so many helicopter missions was impressive, and he is the only vet (among thousands I have seen) who has two DFCs. I will miss his posts on Facebook, as he and I had the same political leanings. I take comfort in the fact that Jim was here to see the election results; he was pretty invested in the process. My deepest condolences on his loss. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
