My association with Shel began in 1988 when I started at Gunlocke. Shel was part of a small, tight knit group of special people who were in the Avon office. Over the years, Shel has been many things - co-worker, teacher, mentor, roomate, drinking buddy, bicycling guru, route planner (Shel loved maps more than anyone I have ever known), JazzFest meetup, confidant - the list is long. But most importantly, Shel was a great friend - the type of friend that anyone is lucky to have in their lives. His wit and wisdom will be sorely missed but I am grateful that Shel has been part of my life for the past 30+ years. Rest In Peace my friend.

Shel was a popular member of Team Hollyloft. We all enjoyed riding and talking to him on Tuesday nights. The last few years he disappeared from the rides and we missed him. I know his family will sorely miss him and his gentle humor. Our condolences and we are thankful to have known Shel. RIP.

Shel was a good friend. I started riding bikes with him in the early 80's. We would have long thoughtful and often intellectual conversations ( Shell was much smarter than I ) as we rode. Even in the group rides at Hollyloft we would drift off the back and talk. We worked together at Gunlocke and Bush Industries for decades and were an unlikely duo of designer and engineer. I am truly saddened by this news. Condolences to his family and friends. JIm Holler

Dear Ilonka, Ted, Elliott, family and friends,
From your ‘family’ in the Netherlands we send our condolences to you all. We are very glad Nynke and I got the chance to visit you in 2018 in Geneseo and spend a wonderful time together. We have very fond memories of Shel and will cherish them. We wish you a lot of strength and love.
