Obituary of Brother Louis Adalbert Petruska

Brother Louis Adalbert Petruska, age 93, of the Abbey of the Genesee in Piffard, NY died Sunday, May 25, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, Geza and Barbara Ann Petruska, sister, Barbara Petruska Chismar and brother-in-law, Anthony “Tony” M. Chismar, Sr.

He is survived by his niece, Barbara Lias of Youngstown, OH, nephews, William (Linda) Chismar, James (MaryEllen) Chismar, Robert Chismar, Anthony (Judy) Chismar, Jr., 2 great nieces, 3 great nephews and his fellow brothers at the Abbey of the Genesee. 

Brother Louis was born August 4, 1931 in Youngstown, OH the son of Geza Adalbert and Barbara Ann Minehart Petruska. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Brother Louis earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Education with a Specialization in Guidance. He was a High School Mathematics Teacher at Cardinal Mooney High School from 1963 to 1979. Brother Louis then devoted himself to the Abbey of the Genesee in Piffard on March 27, 1980.     

A ceremony for the reception of Brother Louis’ body will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 5:15 PM at the Abbey of the Genesee, where his Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in Abbey of the Genesee Cemetery.
